North Bend had a population of 10,317 residents as recorded in the 2020 Decennial Census. A 2024 estimate from Portland State University’s Population Research Center places the city at approximately 10,609 residents — a modest increase.
North Bend was officially incorporated on July 6, 1903, per the Oregon Blue Book. (The Oregon Legislature issued the formal state charter on December 28, 1903.) The city developed as a lumber and shipbuilding center on the Coos Bay peninsula.

The airport was formerly named North Bend Municipal Airport and was renamed in April 2006 to avoid confusion with Bend, Oregon.
Ko-Kwel Casino Resort Coos Bay is a tribal gaming resort in North Bend owned and operated by the Coquille Indian Tribe. Originally opened as The Mill Casino on May 19, 1995 on the site of a former waterfront plywood mill, the property was renamed to Ko-Kwel Casino Resort on May 19, 2025 on the casino’s 30th anniversary. The resort includes a hotel tower, RV park, casino floor, and dining venues along the Coos Bay waterfront. (A separate tribe, the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, is headquartered in Coos Bay and operates the unrelated Three Rivers Casino properties in Florence and Coos Bay.)

The entire Oregon shoreline, including the ocean beaches accessible from North Bend via the Horsfall Beach area (Oregon Dunes NRA) and via Charleston/Sunset Bay to the south, is public up to the high-tide line under the Oregon Beach Bill (1967).
